RESOLUTION ON AFGHANISTAN

Afghanistan, a war-torn country in Asia, is suffering from a great human rights catastrophy.  After 14 years of war against the revisionist Soviet invaders and the puppet regime, the Afghan nation confronted the disorder imposed by the Islamic fundamentalist parties.  The Taleban coming in power in September 1996, imposed an inhuman situation in Afghanistan and represses not only the political opponents but deprive also the ordinary people from their fundamental individual and collective rights.

We, the participants of the Founding Congress of the International Association of People’s Lawyers condemn the abovementioned catastrophic situation and invite all peoples’ lawyers, human rights activists and other progressive organizations and persons to oppose actively the gender apartheid imposed by the Taleban on women in Afghanistan.  Afghans deserve the right to live in freedom and work for the development of their country.
